Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland is pleased to announce that its first female president, Nan McCreadie will be inaugurated on Saturday July 6th at a historic event at the Twickenham Stoop Stadium, home of the Harlequins Rugby Club. Nan will take over from current RIBI President, John Minhinick and will make history by becoming the first ever female president in the association’s 99 year long history.

Nan, who has been a member of the Rotary Club of Feltham since 1997 said: “I am tremendously honoured to be appointed RIBI’s first female president, which I firmly believe is a reflection of how Rotary is moving with the times.

"Rotary is a unique organisation which has come a long way since it first started in Great Britain and Ireland back in 1914. We are currently undergoing a new stage in our development with more and more women and younger people wanting to join Rotary and help their local communities. So it is a really exciting time for me to be taking over and I am very much looking forward to my year in office.”

The event will also see James Lovatt, 25, take over as chairman of Rotaract in Great Britain & Ireland, the first time this has taken place at a presidential handover.

James said: “We’re really excited that for the first time, Rotaract is going to be part of this event, especially at this historic moment when the first female president is being appointed. We are encouraged that Rotaract, which is for 18-30 year olds, is growing faster than it has for a decade. So we are looking forward to being part of an inclusive and strong Rotary under the guidance of Nan McCreadie as we move into the next Rotary year."

Current District Governor for Rotary District 1140, Mike Thorn, will also be handing over his role to Rotarian Ron Daniels, at this not to be missed historic event.
