The Rotary Foundation Trustees have announced that Dr Harminder Dua will be the recipient of the Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award for 2012-13.

Dr Dua is an Ophthalmologist who is Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham, Queen’s Medical Centre. He is renowned as a world authority on corneal disorders and performs advanced surgeries.

It was in 1980 that Dr Dua was a Rotary International Group Study Exchange (GSE) team member from India to the United States. While living in India he provided free eye care to needy patients in rural areas.

The award will be presented to Dr Dua in June at the 2013 Rotary International Convention in Lisbon, Portugal.
