The global swimarathon organised by the Rotary Club of Grantham has now raised in excess of US$100,000 for charity for the second year running. Over 4,000 swimmers took part in the event on Rotary Day, February 23rd, linking up with over 200 Rotary clubs around the world to raise money for End Polio Now and other good causes.
More than forty countries took part with the biggest five events each raising over US$4,000. Australia raised around US$30,000, the most so far for any one country and India had the most swimmers, with well over 1,000 people taking part.
Paul Wilson of the Rotary Club of Grantham said: "The truly amazing efforts of our extraordinary Rotary global community of swimmers and supporters has made a huge difference to the lives of thousands of children. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part, both locally and internationally.
"Here in Grantham it is a truly remarkable local community event which has led to more and more people wanting to do their bit and applying to become members of Rotary."
