Nan McCreadie is preparing to make history when she takes over the presidency of RIBI on Monday 1 July as the organisation’s first ever female president. For the next year she will be leading 53,000 Rotarians in Great Britain and Ireland, working with Rotary clubs in their communities, with their partner organisations and supporting Rotary national and international initiatives.
Nan, who has been a member of the Rotary Club of Feltham since 1997, said: “I am tremendously honoured to be appointed RIBI’s first female president which I firmly believe is a reflection of how Rotary is moving with the times. My focus for my year in office will be on attracting new members, especially women and young people who are interested in volunteering.
"Our research has shown that many people would like to get involved in volunteering, so this year we are looking at how we can facilitate this by working flexibly around busy lifestyles. Many Rotary clubs have already moved away from the traditional lunchtime or evening meetings, which can be incompatible with busy lives. Instead, some have breakfast meetings, others are forming eclubs and those where members have young children, meet in each other’s homes. With clubs in virtually every city and town in Great Britain and Ireland, there are numerous ways in which people can join Rotary and get involved in the many exciting local, national and international community projects we carry out each year.”
Nan will formally take over from the current RIBI President, John Minhinick at a handover ceremony in Twickenham on Saturday 6 July.
"I would like to begin my term in office by inviting members of the public to get in touch with their local Rotary club and find out how they can make a real difference in their local community. With Rotary clubs in virtually every major town and city, there are numerous ways in which people can join Rotary and get involved in the many exciting local, national and international community projects we carry out each year” she added.
