The Rotary Club of Colchester Forum has donated £2,000 to WaterAid, an international non-governmental organisation which provides access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation to the world’s poorest communities. The donation was presented by Club President, Andrew Crayston to WaterAid representative, Aaron Dixie during a recent talk at the club. Thanking the Rotarians, Aaron Dixie said: “This money will provide around 120 people with clean water and sanitation.”
The funds will be used to support the work of WaterAid in the Samfya District of Zambia, where only one in fourteen people have access to safe water and less than one in every hundred people has access to safe sanitation facilities.
The project will use a mixture of low cost, sustainable technologies, including rain water harvesting tanks and water supply systems powered by wind and solar energy. Local people will be trained in the skills required to carry out the work themselves and all at a cost of less than £17 per head.
