Rotary ale brewed to benefit charity

Rotarians in Swindon have worked together with a Wiltshire brewery to produce a beer which will help charities.

The phoenix is certainly rising in Swindon where Swindon Phoenix Rotary, in collaboration with the Hop Kettle Brewing Company (Tap Brew), have been working very closely for the last several months to brew a Rotary ale, aptly named ‘Phoenix Rising’.

For every sale, a percentage will go back to the Rotary club’s charity account, benefitting local charities and good causes.

The ale has been brewed with the help and assistance of the Rotarians, and will be sold in cask, bottles and mini kegs.

On what has been a very difficult time for the hospitality sector, Tom invested lots of his time to make this ale happen. We very much hope to see the local community benefit greatly from the partnership and the ale.”

Club President, Adam Wainwright, praised the relationship between Swindon Phoenix Rotary and the Hop Kettle, with particular mention to the brewery’s founder, Tom Gee.

He said: “To have our very own Rotary beer was an idea I had during the pandemic lockdown and thinking ahead to my year as President.

For every sale of ‘Phonix Rising’, a percentage will go back to the Rotary club’s charity account.

“Could we really make our own beer a reality? Could we join forces with a local brewery to brew a special ale and for every sale; could a percentage come back to support local charities and good causes?

“After speaking to my fellow Rotarians, it was agreed that it was a great idea and we should pursue it.”

Adam pointed out that the pandemic has been a tough time for the hospitality industry. However, Tom Gee and the Hop Kettle team were incredible supportive throughout the process.

He explained: “On what has been a very difficult time for the hospitality sector, Tom invested lots of his time to make this ale happen. We very much hope to see the local community benefit greatly from the partnership and the ale.”

Phoenix Rising, with is a pale ale, was launched just before Christmas and the Rotary club is hopeful the community will embrace the new ale at the pumps.

It is a balanced pale ale, hopped in the kettle and then further dry-hopped with American Cascade. A smooth Malt base combines with pine and floral hop flavours in this easy-drinking beer.

For every pint or bottle sold a large percentage of the profit is donated to the Swindon Phoenix Rotary’s chosen charity of the year and other local charities and good causes.
