Rotary Club supports local estate one brick at a time

Chiswick house has lost vital funds after being forced to cancel events through the year due to COVID-19. Chiswick & Brentford Rotary Club are stepping in to support their fundraising efforts.

The Chiswick & Brentford Rotary Club are supporting Chiswick House Estate raising vital funds to continue running after COVID-19 forced them to cancel events throughout the year.

Due to Covid-19 the estate has lost half of its annual income of £1m because its cash-raising events had to be cancelled.

In spite of the expense, the gardens have been kept open during lockdown, and have continued to provide a welcome haven of peace and tranquillity for the local community. There is an urgent need to replace the lost income so that the estate can continue to be available to all.

The charity Chiswick House Friends is building a 2m long, 50,000 LEGO® brick model of the House, brick-by-brick through online sale, with all funds going to the estate.

Rotary member, John Armstrong said: “We have been supporting the Chiswick House Friends, also a local charity, in the building of a 50,000 piece Lego model of the House. Whenever someone donates to the Just Giving webpage a brick is added to the model with the aim of raising a total of £75,000 for the House and Gardens.”

For every donation a brick will be added to the model. Brick donations are set at £2 each, or £1.50 if you donate for 10 or more.

So far the Chiswick House Friends fundraiser has raised £25,000, and will continue to fundraise in order for Chiswick House to remain open.

All donations, large or small, are gratefully received and will support the vital task of keeping Chiswick House Gardens open and beautiful.

Once completed, the model will be a resource the education of local school children about the history and architecture of this unique building. The model is historically interesting because it shows the House with Wings as it was for most of its life and during Victorian times.
