Three new additions complete Volunteer Expo Online speaker line up

Three exciting names have been added to complete Volunteer Expo Online’s line up of speaker sessions on 7th and 8th May. Plus our programme of speakers is now available, so you can start planning your virtual visit.

Award winning broadcaster and adventurer Ben Fogle will join the line up as our second headline speaker!

With decades of adventures and travelling under his belt, with countless lessons to share on the natural world and inspirational stories to tell of personal perseverance.

He is known for presenting numerous programmes, including Animal Park and Countryfile, and has travelled to over 200 places around the world during his broadcasting career.

Also joining us is Katie Thistleton, BBC Radio 1 presenter and author.

Katie is passionate about mental health awareness, with much of her work focussed around supporting young people, from children through to twenty-somethings, with warm and honest advice on a wide range of issues from sexual health, to bullying.

She is an ambassador for charities Place2be and YoungMinds, as well as being a trained counsellor and will be a familiar face to families across the country, as she presented BBC Bitesize’s Daily TV shows for secondary school students during lockdown in 2020.

Our third new announcement is Matt Hyde, Chief Executive of the Scouts, the UK’s largest coeducational youth movement.

Through his time at the Scouts, and in his former role as Chief Executive of the National Union of Students and as a current trustee of Step Up To Serve, Matt has helped change the conversation around youth volunteering, attracting support and investment to grow youth social action.

Matt has a fantastic view of the voluntary sector as one of its key leaders, but also the impact of volunteering at grass roots level as a volunteer himself in a Scout Troop.

Ben Fogle will headline the event on Friday 7th May, kicking things off as our opening speaker. Heavyweight boxer and mental health campaigner Frank Bruno, will headline the Main Stage on Saturday 8th May. A full timetable of our speakers is now also available so you can start planning your virtual visit!

We can also announce a change to the previously listed programme of speakers, with Sarah Vibert, the new interim Chief Executive of NCVO, replacing Karl Wilding on our programme. Sarah will be taking a look at what impact the pandemic has had on volunteering, and what is the legacy likely to be in the future.
