Two coastal Rotary clubs hold successful fundraising meals

Despite the incredibly different circumstances, both Bexhill and Fareham Rotarians got to enjoy an amazing meal whilst raising vital funds.

Despite heavy rain in East Sussex meaning that the planned crazy golf event had to be postponed, Bexhill Rotary Club made sure the day didn’t go to waste as they gathered for fish and chips instead.

The event was planned to take place at International Crazy Golf Complex in Pelham Place, Hastings but it didn’t take long for the weather to put an end to the original plans. Not to be defeated, the club took shelter at the onsite fish and restaurant and proceeded to have a wonderful evening.

Organiser of the event and Chair of the International Committee, Bexhill Rotarian John Meadows, said: “Even though the crazy golf was called off, it was an enjoyable evening and we made a profit of £100 on the event.

“This will be added to £240 collected from recent raffles, and the £340 will be put towards a ShelterBox.”

For the last ten years, ShelterBox and Rotary have been official project partners in disaster relief throughout the world and are currently working to support those in countries such as Ukraine, Yemen and Pakistan.

Further west along the South Coast, Fareham Rotary recently got to enjoy some Spanish cuisine in an effort to raise funds for a local charity.

The Rainbow Centre in Fareham, that supports those with a neurological condition, needs an accessible roundabout for the children in their care and we hope to achieve that for them.

Earlier this year, two Fareham Rotarians cycled over 400 miles to France to raise money for a new roundabout and now it was time for the whole club to enjoy the ‘Rainbow Dinner’.

Antonio Pego-Pineiro, a member of Fareham Rotary, hosted the dinner at his Spanish restaurant and the evening raised an impressive £518.79 through both raffles and auctions.

Pam Marsden, President of the Rotary Club of Fareham, said: “What better way to raise funds towards our Rotary Roundabout than over a superb Spanish meal and the diners were so generous in supporting this special appeal.

“I know that children locally attending The Rainbow Centre will be so happy to use this roundabout, when we raise sufficient funds, and we have more events to come to achieve our aim!”
