Neville Hackett – Past Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland President

We are saddened to share the news of the death of Neville Hackett at the age of 98, who served as President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland in 1991/92.

Neville first joined Rotary in 1966 as a member of Ashby-De-La-Zouch Rotary Club in Leicestershire, where he was a member for over 40 years.

He then went on to be a member of Market Harborough, and, most recently, Oadby Rotary clubs.

Neville served as District Governor for District 1070 in 1980/81, which covers parts of the East Midlands including Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, and Rutland.

He then took up the role of President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland in July 1991 and served as Rotary International Director between 1993 and 1995.

Neville served Rotary in many capacities at club, district, and international level, with his most notable work including being part of the inception of PolioPlus and, in particular, securing over $75m worth of funding for the campaign from then Prime Minister, John Major.

We send our condolences to Neville’s family at his sad time, and share our gratitude that he dedicated so much of his life to Rotary.
