Philanthropy and fashion come together in Barnsley thanks to Rotary

This community event was organised to show the talents of the people of Barnsley whilst raising money to support vulnerable people both locally and nationally.

Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club brought a host of Barnsley celebrities took to the catwalk for Barnsley Fashion Week 2023, raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The week consisted of exciting digital and in-person events such as Q&A’s, workshops and roundtable discussions with fashion industry professionals before concluding with a fashion show at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Organised along with Barnsley-born fashion designer Victoria Reddington, all profits from the event will be given to BIADS (Barnsley Independent Alzheimers And Dementia Support) and Marie Curie.

Victoria commented: “It was a real celebration of Yorkshire talent from the models to designers, from the sponsors to all the support of local businesses, it was a taste of the best of Yorkshire.

“We worked closely with Barnsley College and their students in the Fashion department who were heavily involved in the fashion week. The students showcased their work in our Pop Up Shop in The Glassworks, that ran for 2 weeks.

“Their garments were then modelled by some of the students themselves on the catwalk at our Headline Show. It was a great opportunity for the students to get experience in a real life industry environment and they all excelled!”

The fashion show was hosted by YouTuber Danny Mei Lan Malin and radio presenter Sophie Mei Lan Malin, also known as Mr and Mrs Yorkshire, and saw a diverse group of models of different size, ages and backgrounds showing off clothing from the Barnsley College students as well as other high street retailers and small boutiques.

Local celebrities such as DJ Stephanie Hirst, Capital FM’s JoJo, X-Factor’s Holly Tandy and The Voice’s Janine Dyer also took to the catwalk during the fashion show.

Victoria added: “We’ve already got our sights set on next year’s show. We’re looking for sponsors to support us to make the show even bigger and better.”
