The Rotary Club of Belfast has donated £25,000 to a new project which will help combat youth suicide, drug, alcohol and solvent abuse in the city. The project, in partnership with the charity, Forum for Action on Substance Abuse (FASA) was launched by the Lord Mayor of Belfast and Dame Mary Peters on 29 May at Belfast City Hall.
[IMG: 2030 border=”0″ alt=”Youth trailer” align=”left” width=”180″ height=”111″]The funds have enabled a disused trailer to be refurbished and specifically designed for visiting vulnerable communities who need help with mental health, drug and alcohol problems. Known as the YETI Youth Hub, it has its own generator and numerous on board facilities, including seating for up to 17 people. It will be used by FASA to engage communities in Belfast on an outreach basis where young people are marginalised. It will also provide youngsters with social and recreational activities, retraining and skills training, along with vital help and support in crisis areas.The Rotary Club of Belfast President, Alan Rundle said: “I am delighted that the club is able to provide £25,000 for this excellent venture. The trailer was previously donated in 2005 to the education and library board as a life education facility. It is no longer required for that purpose so we have had it refurbished for FASA and are pleased that it is being put to such good use.
“Rotary is for communities and this project epitomises this ethos by helping our community and providing life opportunities for young people through financial and practical support. We are committed to continuing this work in the months and years to come.”
