Voluntary Sector leaders to speak at Volunteer Expo

Chief Executives of two the voluntary sector’s leading organisations are the latest names to join the speaker list for Volunteer Expo.

Karl Wilding, Chief Executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and Catherine Johnstone, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service, will both be speaking at Volunteer Expo.

Karl became Chief Executive in 2019 after previously being NCVO’s director of public policy and volunteering, where he oversaw our advocacy work on behalf of charities, community groups, social enterprises and volunteering.

Karl speaks and writes widely on issues facing the voluntary sector, including public trust, the role of modern charity, and the future of giving and social action.

Outside of his day job, Karl is a volunteer trustee for two organisations and also a regular volunteer at parkrun, from which he takes a huge sense of satisfaction.

“When those people run passed you at parkrun and they give you the high five and say ‘thanks for volunteering’ it’s just amazing. It’s the best feeling ever.”

Looking ahead to the event, Karl is excited at what’s in store for visitors. “If you come along you’ll hear what some of the really good stuff is that people are doing that gets people involved and then leaves people feeling they’ve had a fantastic volunteering experience so that they want to come back and do it again.”

Joining Karl on the speaker programme is Catherine Johnstone, who took up the role of Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) in August 2017, an organisation providing volunteer support for over-stretched public services and for people as they age.

Prior to her role at RVS, Catherine was Chief Executive of Samaritans. As a trained nurse, her key passions are frontline service delivery and enabling the gift of voluntary service.
